Tennessee Health Information Consortium

The Tennessee Health Information Consortium (THIC) is a group of 11 medical libraries in West Tennessee. These libraries are working together to purchase electronic resources that benefit all members. THIC was ratified June 15, 2006.

About THIC

The Tennessee Health Information Consortium (THIC) seeks to provide mass purchasing of electronic resources to benefit all members by saving money for members and providing access to more e-resources than each member might realize from individual licensing.

Current Topics

  • Invite Tennessee public and private academic institutions and private and quasi-private institutions (e.g., academic institutions, hospitals, associations, healthcare facilities) related to health care to participate in the COOP
  • Inform potential users of THIC about its utility and opportunities and provide training opportunities to participants (e.g., THIC services and databases)
  • Explore other needs for THIC services, products, and activities to benefit all members of THIC

After their initial meeting in October 2005, THIC members met again four times before signing a letter of intent on June 15, 2006. Meetings continue to be held approximately every 2 months.

E-Resources

THIC members benefit from savings realized as a result of shared purchase to online resources. Three members are participating in shared access to electronic journals published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins via Ovid. Four members are jointly subscribing to the Cochrane databases, published by John Wiley & Sons. THIC is currently in negotiations with EBSCO for shared access to selected databases.
